The first "iron" races in Catalonia took place in 2014. But the racing track in Calella was used for triathlon before under the title Challenge Barcelona-Maresme. It is considered to be one of the most accessible and pleasant due to the lack of long upward slopes, favorable weather conditions and picturesque nature. The three stages are organized in the following way:
- swimming – one round in the Mediterranean Sea;
- bicycle race – 2 rounds, mostly on the coast;
- race – 3 rounds from Calella to Calella through -Santa-Susanna.
In this race, 40 slots for IRONMAN World Championship are played. The maximal allowed time for the distance is 15 hours 40 minutes. The male record of the track was established in 2016 by the Swede Nilson Patrick (07:55:28), and the female one – by Ivonne van Vlerken of the Netherlands in 2015 (8:46:45).
