Trip to Costa Brava
Excursion along the coast of Catalonia
The trip to Costa Brava from Barcelona will acquaint you with beauties and history of this lovely region. Three ancient cities await us – Blanes, Tossa de Mar and Lloret de Mar; each of which is wonderful in its own way. Rocky shores here are replaced by endless sandy beaches, modern districts neighbor on the architecture of Middle Ages, and seascapes with picturesque harbors are supplemented by parks and gardens drowning in green.

The first stop of our trip is the old town on Costa Brava - Blanes, a famous resort with rich history and cleanest beaches. Here you can see the medieval observation tower, walk along ancient streets, but the really unique sight of the town is the botanical garden Mar i Murtra. It was founded in early 20th century by the botanical enthusiast Carl Faust and it is a spacious park holding a collection of over 3000 plants and an unbelievably beautiful landscape.
Then we go to Tossa de Mar – a wonderful town where luxurious modern beaches coexist with medieval architecture. The main attraction here is the fortress town Villa Vella built in the 12th century. Surrounded by a fortress wall with seven towers , this citadel adds special flavor to the town. Marc Chagall used to call Tossa de Mar "Azure Paradise" and frequently came here for inspiration; today his works are displayed in the local museum, where there are also ancient Roman exhibits.
After the walk in the town you will have free time for lunch and souvenir shopping, after which we will go to the next stop of our trip – Lloret de Mar, to walk along the embankment, admire the marine panorama and optionally visit the Cala Banys harbor.
Towards evening you can visit the wine palace and taste the famous Spanish wines, which will be a proper ending to the trip to Costa Brava.
Observation tower Sant Joan in Blanes A monumental building of 11-13th centuries majestically towers over the town adding ancient charm to its features.
Botanical garden Mar i Murtra in Blanes Established by the scientist in love with his subject, the garden is not just a collection of rare plants, but a beautiful groomed garden with elegant buildings.
Fortress town villa Vella in Tossa de Mar The impression of this well-kept fortification of the 12th century is increased by its location on the picturesque rocky shore.
St. Christine Church in Lloret de Mar The beautiful building in modern style was founded in the 14th century and is connected with the legend of obtaining the wooden statue of the saint found by a shepherd at this particular place.
Tower Castell de Sant Joan in Lloret de Mar Since the 10th century it served the locals as refuge from pirates and enemies, and today the ancient tower rises on the rock reminding of the complicated history of the town.
Santa Clotilde Park in Lloret de Mar The Santa Clotilde gardens were built in early 20th century in the spirit of Italian Renaissance and still impress visitors with the harmony of their lush green and great sculptures.
